Tips for Contacting Faculty Mentors
It's no surprise that Stanford faculty members are busy people. The following tips will help you to get the most out of your contact with faculty members:
- Read the faculty member’s Community Academic Profile before contacting them (faculty names below are already linked to their CAP)
- Read relevant articles by the faculty member before contacting them
- If you want to do a Medical Scholars research project, look for a mentor who has a research agenda in an area that interests you and inquire about how you might be able to assist with an existing project
- Prepare specific questions to ask the faculty member before contacting them
- Keep email/phone messages brief and concise (with requests for meetings clearly stated up front)
